3rd Symposium on Usability and Design: Examining Connections to Technical Communication and Localization held at the Faculty of Language of the University of Strasbourg in partnership with Louisiana Tech University in the United States.

The Pre-Symposium will feature insightful Master Classes, followed by a diverse array of presentations delivered by academics and industry professionals from around the world.

Pre-Symposium Master Classes:

  • Chat GPT as a Writing/Design Aid at Early Stages of Writing Projects and Text Development, by Pavel Zemliansky, Oslo Metropolitan University
  • Plain Language and UX: An Approach for Technical Communication, by Carolyn Gubala, University of California Davis, University of Strasbourg
  • Fake News: A User Experience Perspective, by Ray Gallon, University of Strasbourg, The Transformation Society

The overarching theme of the Symposium is "Re-thinking Usability and Design”, exploring intersections with technical communication and localization. The primary objective is to convene researchers specializing in usability, technical communication, and localization to:

  • Discuss the current state of research in these areas
  • Present the results of recent (i.e., within the last year) research in these areas
  • Collect comments and suggestions on ongoing or future research projects
  • Explore opportunities for research partnerships with colleagues working in these areas
  • Map prospective research trends in these areas
  • Plan trajectories and discuss conference and publication venues for participants’ work
